Accessibility

We want anyone to be able to use this site: to find the showroom, see the stone, and get in touch. This page says what we have done about that, what we know is still imperfect, and how to tell us when something does not work.

The standard we follow

We build this site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. It is the standard most commonly referenced in the United States and internationally.

We believe the site substantially meets that standard. No independent auditor has reviewed it. The people who built the site tested it. People who rely on assistive technology every day have not, and their testing finds problems ours cannot. If you use assistive technology and something here does not work for you, please tell us.

What the site does

The KLZ Stone Supply website does each of these, and you can check them yourself:

  • A skip link. Press Tab on any page and the first thing you reach is a link that jumps past the navigation straight to the content.
  • A visible focus indicator on everything. One ring, defined once, for every link, button, and form field, so keyboard users can always see where they are.
  • Full keyboard operation. Nothing on this site needs a mouse. On a phone, the filter panel on the browse page closes with Escape and returns focus to the button that opened it. While it is open, the results behind it are removed from the tab order, so you cannot land on something hidden.
  • Less motion when you ask for it. If your device asks for less motion, nothing on the page slides or travels across the screen.
  • Measured color contrast. We check text and background pairs against the 4.5:1 ratio WCAG sets, and the edges of controls against 3:1. A script reads the colors from the stylesheet and fails if any pair misses its threshold.
  • Real structure. Headings run in order without skipping levels, the page has proper landmarks, the FAQ uses native expandable sections, and form fields have real labels. Photographs that carry meaning have text alternatives, and purely decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.
  • Targets you can actually hit. Buttons and controls are larger than the minimum size WCAG 2.2 sets, which matters most on a phone. On the browse page, the whole width of a filter row is the target, not only its checkbox.

Where we know we fall short

These are the limitations we know about:

  • The slab inventory is not our software. The Inventory runs on a separate system we license rather than build, and we cannot fix its accessibility ourselves. If it is getting in your way, tell us. We would rather help you directly, and we can raise it with the vendor. In the meantime, calling the showroom gets you a person who can search it for you.
  • The map on the contact page comes from Google and carries whatever accessibility Google gives it. The full address, opening hours, and a plain text directions link are on the same page and do not need the map.
  • Text set over photography. Parts of this site put white text over photographs: the text and buttons at the top of the home page, and the captions on its project photographs. We keep it legible with a dark scrim behind it. A photograph is not a flat color, though, so we cannot give a single contrast figure for that text as we can everywhere else. Nothing you need appears only there: the same two links are in the menu at the top of every page, and each project photograph has a text alternative describing the same stone as its caption.
  • Our sister companies’ websites are separate businesses on separate systems, and this statement does not cover them.

Report a problem

Tell us about any problem you find. A specific report helps us most: which page, what you were trying to do, what happened, and which browser or assistive technology you use. A general report is welcome too.

We aim to reply within five business days. If a fix is going to take longer than that, we will tell you what we are doing and roughly when.

Getting to the stone another way

You do not need this website to buy from us. Come to the showroom, and our staff will walk the racks with you and describe what is on them. Or call us at 1 (877) 553-2323, and we will handle the whole conversation by phone.

Keeping this page up to date

We review this page when we change the site. It describes the site as it is now, not as we would like it to be. When we fix a limitation, we will move it from the list of limitations to the list of what the site does.
