Visiting & buying

How it works

When is the showroom open?

The Dallas showroom is open Monday through Friday and on Sunday, and is closed on Saturday. It is open to the public and no appointment is needed; the exact hours are listed in the showroom details on the home page.

Where is KLZ located, and is there more than one location?

KLZ is a single yard in Dallas, Texas, not a chain. It serves the wider Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, including Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Arlington and Southlake, but there is one place to visit: the Dallas showroom.

Do I need a trade account or an appointment to buy?

No. The showroom is open to the public with no trade account and no appointment required. Homeowners, designers, architects, builders and fabricators are all welcome to walk the racks and choose slabs.

How does the slab get to my fabricator?

You take the slab you choose to your own fabricator: collect it from the Dallas yard yourself, or have your fabricator collect it for you. KLZ supplies the slab; your fabricator cuts and installs it.

How do I hold or reserve a particular slab?

Every slab is photographed and given a tag number. Once you have chosen one, give us its tag in the showroom or over the phone and we will set that exact slab aside for you.

Can KLZ make my countertop, or supply a sink or tools?

No — KLZ Stone Supply sells stone slabs and nothing else; it does not fabricate, install, or sell sinks and tools. Separate family businesses cover those: American Quartz USA for quartz countertops, Splendor Sink for sinks, and KLZ Diamond Tools for cutting and finishing tools.

About KLZ

The business

Does KLZ Stone Supply fabricate or install countertops?

No. KLZ Stone Supply is a wholesale slab supplier only: it does not fabricate and it does not install. It sells stone by the slab to architects, designers, fabricators and the public, who take the slab they choose to their own fabricator.

Is the showroom open to the public, and do I need an appointment?

Yes, the Dallas showroom is open to the public and no appointment is necessary. You can walk the racks and choose the exact slabs that will be set aside for your project.

What kinds of stone does KLZ stock?

KLZ holds natural and engineered stone slabs in stock: marble, quartzite, granite, semi-precious, dolomite and porcelain. Every slab is photographed, numbered and racked by bundle in the Dallas building.

Does KLZ keep the slabs in stock, or are they made to order?

KLZ holds what it sells. Because the stock stands in the building, the exact slab you approve in the yard is the one that ships to your fabricator, rather than a different piece cut from the same name later.

How much do slabs cost?

Prices are not published online. Stone is sold by the individual slab and no two bundles are alike, so quotes come from the yard by phone or email once you know which material and slab you want.

Choosing your stone

Materials

What is the difference between quartz and quartzite?

They sound alike but are different materials. Quartzite is a natural stone quarried from the ground; engineered quartz is manufactured from crushed stone bound with resin. Quartzite is very hard and heat-resistant but porous, so it needs periodic sealing. Quartz is non-porous and never needs sealing, but tolerates heat less well and is best kept away from hot pans.

Is quartzite or marble better for a kitchen?

For a working kitchen, quartzite is usually the more durable choice. It offers the flowing, marble-like veining many people want, but is considerably harder and more resistant to scratching and etching. Marble is softer and etches from acids such as lemon, wine and vinegar, which is why it is more often chosen for vanities, fireplaces and lower-traffic surfaces than for busy kitchens.

What is the difference between granite and quartz?

Granite is a natural stone, quarried and cut into slabs; quartz is engineered from crushed stone and resin. Granite handles heat better and each slab is one of a kind, but it is porous and needs periodic sealing. Quartz is non-porous, needs no sealing and offers a more uniform, repeatable look, but is more sensitive to heat. Both are hard and well suited to kitchens.

Are porcelain slabs good for countertops?

Yes. Sintered porcelain slabs are non-porous, UV-stable and highly resistant to heat, scratching and staining, and they come in large formats, which suits countertops, outdoor kitchens and facades alike. Because they are non-porous, they never need sealing.

Caring for stone

Care & maintenance

How often should I seal natural stone countertops?

Natural stone such as granite, marble and quartzite is porous and should be sealed periodically, commonly once or twice a year depending on the stone and how heavily it is used. A simple test: if water no longer beads on the surface, it is time to reseal.

What cleaner is safe for marble and quartzite?

Use a pH-neutral, water-based cleaner with no harsh chemicals, or plain dish soap with warm water. Avoid bleach, vinegar, ammonia and any acidic or abrasive product, which will etch marble and other sensitive natural stones.

Does quartz need to be sealed?

No. Engineered quartz is non-porous and never needs sealing. Clean it with a pH-neutral, non-abrasive cleaner or mild dish soap, and use trivets and cutting boards for heat and knife protection.

Does Dallas hard water leave marks on stone countertops?

It can. North Texas has hard water, and its minerals can leave a cloudy film or spots on stone, most often around faucets and where water is left to stand. Wipe up standing water, clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner, and keep natural stone sealed so the minerals cannot soak in. Remove any existing film with a stone-safe cleaner rather than an acidic descaler, which will etch marble and other acid-sensitive stone.
