The marble most people picture: a bright white ground crossed by broad gray veining, often warmed with gold. Quarried in the Apuan Alps above Carrara, and rarer than the Carrara marble it is often confused with, with a whiter ground and bolder, more widely spaced veining. It is calcite, so acid will etch it and it will develop a patina with use.

Natural stone: every slab is different
This is quarried material. Color, veining and movement vary from slab to slab and from bundle to bundle, and no two are the same. The photograph shows one slab and is not the range. Pick the actual slabs off the rack, and take everything your job needs from the same bundle. a later order will be a different block and will not match.

Screens vary. These photographs are unedited and ungraded, but the only accurate way to judge a stone is to stand in front of it.
